Exit West -Book Review !!

“When we migrate,We murder from our lives those we leave behind”

Exit West” -The Story got me interested,While going through a magazine article and immediately noted the book in my Reading list,For the next Year 2018.

Last week of December,I ordered it online and it was waiting on my Desk to be read soon!! No,I wasn’t waiting for 2018 to begin to start reading this one,I was on the verge  of getting through another book “Sapiens” another one I had on my list and ended 2017 by reading the Book .

It’s barely  been 2 days of the New Year!!

And I am Just Done reading ‘Exit West ,by Mohsin Hamid,Who I wasn’t aware was the author who wrote the’ Reluctant Fundamentalist.’Which was Adapted into a movie by Mira Nair.

The Book”Exit West”is  very similar to the story of  Reluctant Fundamentalist and Going through the books written by Hamid,I realised he is intrigued by the idea  of cross cultural influence and ‘Exit West’  Too is  a story of lovers Saeed & Nadia’s lives evolving through the  the years  of living together and never settling in one place realising Home is where they belong. And in many ways we all are immigrants and refugees in our homeland.

Exit West has also being shortlisted by ManBookerPrize 2017 and has been on of the Best Books Of 2017.

Million$Quartet Musical !!

One Afternoon,I am told by one of my colleagues.

Today,I have to go and watch the “Million Dollar Quartet” Musical.I had to keep myself content Not because,I knew I was going for a spectacular show! But the experience of witnessing a musical show And As the show concluded.

I was a totally a fan of the entire cast who performed the

“Million Dollar Quartet”   a recording of an impromptu  jam session involving (Elvis Presley) Played by Rhys Whitfield ,(Jerry Lee Lewis) played by  Martin Kaye who is simply magical with not only his fingers But as a performer too   ,(Carl Perkins) played by Matt Wycliffe was electrifying with the guitar    and (Johnny Cash) played by Robbie Durham  made on December 4 ,1956 at the Sun Records Studio in Memphis,Tennessee

The recording was first released in Europe in 1981 as The Million Dollar Quartet with 17 tracks.

Peter Duncan   Played by Sam Philips the legendary record producer – the man who brought the 4 recording stars together to create music history.

Established performer Carl Perkins was to record songs with a new performer, Jerry Lee Lewis. Elvis Presley stops by the studio along with his girlfriend, a singer named Dyanne (at the real session, Elvis’s girlfriend was a dancer, Marilyn Evans—now Riehl).Johnny Cash had stopped by to talk to recording impresario Sam Philips. They soon have a jam session together. Philips attempts to re-sign Johnny Cash to a new contract, unaware he has already signed with Columbia Records  Typically, as a member from the Quartet enters for the first time, he sings a verse of one of his most famous songs, followed by an onstage freeze of all actors. During this time Sam Philips relates to the audience how he first discovered the boy, and a brief, few line scene of that moment occurs between Philips and the musician, followed by Sam Phillips asking the boy to play something for him, which is the next verse of the song, and everyone unfreezes.

The airport Architecture is very internationally appealing. Kolkata version of The Big Ben too Came on our way and then we realised kolkata is a Big city!! It’s the 2nd largest city in India after New Delhi in terms of the space.

Kolkata can also boast about having the 1st underground metro railway system in the country. And the oldest Running electric tram system in Asia and being the only city  in the country to have a tram network since1902.

Football salt lake stadium is the 2nd largest stadium in the world and it’s here in kolkata and No wonder football is so big!!

To my surprise there were quite a few interested in the session. And on the day of the session,Most of them turned up too.an hour session turned into a two hour session.

With about six different types of coffee and how to use different types of coffee makers,With some cakes and cookies.

A Sunday,That turned out to be an ideal Sunday in many ways.Looking forward to make this a regular workshop in the future.

Taftoon- Bar &Kitchen review

Tatftoon Derived from the Persian word meaning “burning” is a catchy name and foodies delights it’s non-Vegetarian offering are very delicious and it doesn’t disappoint you at all

The New restaurant in town was a mighty surprise from the Restauraner of Haqq Se and Oye Kake.A complete makeover in terms of the interiors. Very modern feel. The moment you step in,You wonder are you in an indian food restaurant or have you come to an Asian food restaurant.

The colour combination of the door with the green door and blue side walls is very appealing and welcoming the green tiles as soon as you enter are a good welcome.Could easily become the selfie wall .

The whole feel is warm and welcoming.

The food the Gulati Kebas served on coin parathas with banana leafs on the bottom is very delicious.

But,The signature dish here would be the chicken Harrisa. Small size Roti with stuffed chicken and Harrisa a must try.
