Personal Book Review – Becoming & Charles Chaplin !!

Becoming by Michelle Obama

I Wouldn’t have really read this book. But, The moment you read It’s written by the former first lady, You know it’s going to be a great read. As it’s going to have things you wouldn’t know about their lives and you also get the chance to know the White House from an insider, The whole architecture, The protocols and the life behind the camera as a president and more importantly Michelle Obama’s journey in life.

Charles Chaplin – Autobiography

I really don’t like reading artist biographies or autobiography’s who have been part of the entertainment industry. For one they could be totally biased, one-sided and slightly boring to read. But Charles Chaplin I have been wanting to read for a long time, a couple of days before we went on national lockdown (25th march ’20’ ) I was about to place an order from the e-commerce website, But did not. Also, having read most of the books that I had already ordered and now worried I had no books to read, First I began scrolling from my contacts and messaged a couple of my “friends” if they could lend me some books. After having waited for too long for them to reply, I browsed through my library at home once again! Maybe there is a book I haven’t read and guess what! I found one of the first editions of Charles Chaplin which was tearing apart and I began reading the book, It was one of the best books I must have read on cinema and actor as it teaches you so much about what goes behind an actor during his preparation and how much effort is it to “Act” and being a superstar of the “silent Era” This fascinated me and within five days I had finished reading the book. Right from his childhood to him coming back from Hollywood and visiting his roots in The UK to him finally settling down in Switzerland to have been married numerous time. About five times and having eleven kids to getting the longest standing ovation in the (Twelve Minutes long ) history of academy awards Charles was one hell of a “Charlie.” It’s a must-read for all and besides Charlie, if you want to read another book on an actor you must! And must read Naseeruddin Shah Memoir – Then one day!

Best Hollywood Films 2019!!

1. Joker

A One-man show that leaves you wow! Playing a character that was played by heath ledger in the dark night way back in 2009/2010 and then you have Joaquin Phoenix play the character again a decade later. And you just love the way he has acted. It’s a challenge to play a character – That’s battling depression And suffers from a pathological neurological disorder that makes him laugh uncontrollably. He is a standup comedian. But all in all, he might be imagining all this?

The movie was directed by Todd Philips who is known in Hollywood as the maker behind the popular “Hangover” and directed “A Star is born.” The joker played by Joaquin is a performance that will be remembered as he has transformed himself totally. You must have seen him in “Her” a movie about how the lead played by Joaquin falls in love with an artificial intelligence system.

The joker is inspired by Alan Moore & Brian Bolland’s 1988 Graphic novel “The killing joke”

If Joaquin wins the Best Actor in the 92nd Academy Awards. This would be the 2nd time one would be winning an award for the same character. Heath Ledger won the Best Actor for his role in Dark knight.

Joaquin lost 52 pounds to get into the character of joker.

2.Once upon a time in Hollywood

A story based in the 60s and early 70s and the premise being Hollywood in those time was something done very well. The Biggest of names were part of story Brad Pitt & Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead Al Pacino and Margot Robbie and last but not the least the director behind the film “Quentin Tarantino” Who made his 9th Film in his journey as a filmmaker. He is just going to make one more film as a filmmaker. The film was perfect with the lighting and establishing how Hollywood “LA” was in the 60s and early 70s the cowboy, The stud farms and the struggle of actors in Hollywood. In case you missed watching “Once upon a time in Hollywood” please watch it. It’s a slow movie and slightly long. But worth it.

3.End Game

Marvellous with all the characters that were part of the “Avengers” Series to the Black Panther & Spiderman too coming together for the last film in the Sci-fi, Superhero movie under the franchises of Marvel Directed by Russo brothers. Who is now coming up with a flick that’s, in no way related to superheroes, But has one of the superhero actors playing the lead? “ Tom Holland” will be seen in a thriller that will be directed by “ Russo Brothers”

But, End Game was a total Game changer – With A.R Rahman having an anthem part of the movie to having the movie release in #IndiaFirst. What a way to end the Game.

4.Aladin

The opportunity to relive the genie story in the cinema was a great experience, The musical shot story had the story narrated in a very engrossing way and well The 3 wishes is what’s it is all about. Will Smith as the genie was very entertaining.

Bloody Diamond

While waiting for  another movie show to begin. And realising the neighbour too has come  for the same  screening and  as we were catching up what has been happening in our lives.I don’t know how,But he told me about the movie, “Blood diamond”The story and star cast and  I was immediately, drawn to go and watch this movie.Instead of what I had come to watch.

Almost a year later today,I had the movie saved on “MyList” on the popular streaming website and it did not disappoint me at all. With the story establishing the characters and story in the first few minutes,to taking off with the action and tension of the scenario of what would be happening next.

The story is all about illegal trading of diamonds and how one is forced,Brainwashed to be part of this racket and how everyone is under suspicion of hiding away diamonds for their benefit.

The 150 minutes action packed movie is worth spending part of your weekend. If You haven’t watched Blood Diamond,Go watch it now!! It’s got a story,It’s got the emotions of empathy for the characters every time they are in trouble and the One Question will they find it or not.

Room -Movie Review

Room -Can anyone imagine staying in a room without having any access to the outside world or any human contact ,and the only source of entertainment is a television .

For 7 long years ? A story of about the lead actress played by briel Larson who has been kidnapped and kept in a single room with kitchen appliances, single bed ,pot, bath tub giving you a disgusting feeling of the torturous lifestyle she had to go through and how her son jack ,who is oblivious to the outside world and always question whether the people on television are real ?

On his 5th birthday, the lead actress believes jack has grown up and so starts planning to escape so first she tries telling the kidnapper he is sick ,but since he isn’t bothered and ignores her by saying he will try doing something tomorrow ,next day she plans to escape by convincing the kidnapper he is dead ,but he alone takes him away and the movie is all about how the kid manages to escape and tells the police what happens ,they manage to escape and the kid finds it hard to manage in the real world .

A very intense ,movie wrapped in less than 2hours with the lead doing an excellent job acting a role which was challenging and the kid too played the supporting very well .

A serious contender for the best academy film .
