Dear,

Readers

2016 is Done and dusted with but, looking back at the year and looking back at the book that made a difference to me I am writing this letter continuing my blog of the other books that I read and enjoyed.

“The High Mountains of Portugal “by Yann Martel was one such book that made me want to read this author after reading the blurb Three journeys.Three broken hearts . One question …

What’s life without stories ?

And the more the reasons I enjoyed reading the book was since it has been a year of asking ourself What life truly is ? And life is about Stories as stories are what connect us.

The moment you read what the book is about ,You want to give it a read. The book is written in three parts homeless,Homeward and home. And its interesting since its about three stories that has a common conclusion and very descriptive, describing every detail and making the reader imagine the setting as if he is there. The story is a little odd and not every reader will enjoy this.
The book blurb has one thought that makes you question -“Three journeys.Three broken hearts . One question …What’s life without stories”?

“The Color Purple” By Alice Walker . The “Color Purple “is a novel, made up of letters written by Celie to God and by Nettie to Celie. At the start of the novel, Celie is a fourteen-year-old, vulnerable, abused black girl who addresses her letters to “Dear God.”
The Book interested me since I had read a lot about it.And It does not fail to disappoint. The letter writing style used by the writer to write the book was something I enjoyed reading and staying interested till the end ,something that not every book can do.

Also at a time when letter writing is history,The book will only make you fall in love with the idea of why can’t we have letters written today?

On this note wish you all a very Happy New Year !!!  2017 here  is and There are still a lot I want to read,Learn from and experience about the different period of life and how The different parts of the world sitting in another corner of the world. If you have any suggestion on books that I must read or I might like please comment and let me know .

Thanks,

Akhil

Secret Santa Gift !!

My Secret Santa gift came with a Clause .After sharing my thoughts on what I wanted for Christmas,A secret Santa I guess read my Post and gifted me a Gift Voucher from a popular bookstore near by,And so I couldn’t wait for the next day (Tomorrow) to arrive and spend time at the bookstore,For which I only find reasons to go to and browse through the book collection. And the day had arrived and couldn’t wait for the clock needle to strike at 10:00 am,But to avoid showing any sign of excitement I Had kept myself busy until it was about 10:15 and thought now it would a good time.

As usual first I strolled around each section and scanned the book carefully,Until I felt none of these are really holding my attention to pull them from their shelfs and I went through my notes on book on my reading list, And started enquiring about the availability of some of the titles that I had wish to read from my list,To my disappointment none of them were currently available with the bookstore and the supplier. And don’t know until when , they will be available.

They offered me to go to their bookshop in the hotel around and browse through the books as they have a selected selection to choose from and I might just have a story worth reading.

But,No I did not find any that I would like reading immediately .

in a standalone bookstore “No means no “where as E-Commerce sites No can be a Yes too.

As,The Digital Generation gets used to convince bargains and a choice as per your selection.

It becomes a challenge to pay the Full Price for something same that’s would be Available for a bargain.Hence the Secret Santa’s gift came with a clause.

That I was totally afraid about and had specially mentioned too on my previous blog “Santa Wherever you are”

Men,women and Loneliness !!

Men,Women and loneliness. This was the theme for the TOI LitFest 2016.

I would like to express my views on this topic and to begin with

At a time,When a lot of celebrities in India and the globe are opening about loneliness issues they have been facing

This topic becomes more relevant to speak about. And the general population has been influenced to such an instinct they too have being opening about their issue, they have been facing in the society,Workplace and home.

But,Hey have men have been facing challenging times since the world has become a rather intolerant towards humour,Making them think too much while they speak their mind out? Or is it because

Women with their independence have been encouraged to follow their path and not settle for anything less than, the expectation they have made up in their mind? Or is it The difference amongst the two, that has forced individuals to deal with loneliness that has its consequences of dealing with anxiety and depression? Or have people become too confused with what they have wanted out of their life’s

forcing humans to be wary and still be part of social circle,As we humans were always part of Socialising and couldn’t deal with being lonely.

Santa wherever you are !

2016 in Books!!

2016, The year is coming to an end, While there are much thinking about what resolutions to pass in 2017 and try keeping it up.

I would like to look back on 2016 and share my reading list with you all. What I enjoyed about each book, What prompted me to read these books.

The Year started with Reading “Benjamin  Franklin An American Life” by Walter Isaacson. I Picked up this author as I enjoyed reading Steve Jobs by Him and Benjamin Franklin was another American great he had written about, Yes it was also about learning about one of the greatest men in American history.

But the most interesting highlight from this reading was knowing the different interest and business he was part of, right from his childhood A scientist, Part of publishing newspapers in a huge way,  and more so he has a “font “type named after him, The Franklin Gothic was named after him a typeface used in newspapers headlines.

After, Reading about the American Icon, And going back into history, It Was Time, To come back to India 2000s and I began reading the “Behind The Beautiful Forever, Life Death, And Hope In A Mumbai Undercity ” by Katherine Boo, A story set in India, Mumbai describing and narrating a story of life in the slums of Mumbai, The 1st book I ever read on a story set in the Mumbai, Which we actually don’t like associating with. The Book makes you realise, You do have an emotional side and you can empathize with it. A great book to live the Mumbai life Slowly, Especially with documentaries making you feel the pain, Without giving you time to share your feeling.

“The Year of the Runaways “by Sunjeev Sahota, Another Book that gives you another perspective on the most important thing ever We are searching for “Love” The year of the  Runaway.  A story about three young men from very different backgrounds come together in a journey from India To England. Where They hope to begin something new, To support their families, Where they can build their future to show their worth, to escape the past, they have almost no idea about. Tarlochan, a former rickshaw driver, who will say nothing about his life in Bihar. Avtar has a secret that binds him to the unpredictable Randeep. Randeep, in turn, has a visa-wife in a flat on the other side of town, whose cupboards are full of her husband’s clothes, in case the immigration men surprise her with a visit.

She is Narinder, and her story is the most surprising of them all.

Utterly absorbing and beautiful in its scope, The Year of the Runaways is written with compassion and touched by grace. As Tochi, Avtar, Randeep and Narinder negotiate their dreams, desires and shocking realities, as their histories continue to pull at them, as the seasons pass, what emerges is a novel of overwhelming humanity: one which asks how far we can decide our own course in life, and what we should do for love, for faith, and for family. A novel, That taught me about the cross-culture differences and thought about the characters. Moving the story ahead for readers to be curious about what next?

“Man Search For Meaning” by Victor Frankl

A Book title, That you would consider would be suitable For someone who is depressed in life, And is finding  A  Purpose Right?

But, It’s a must-read for everyone to understand the times we are living in, In luxury and comfort without having any idea how it is to be on the battlefield every day and not knowing how long you have.

According to the author, the way a prisoner imagined the future affected his longevity. The book intends to answer the question “How was everyday life in a concentration camp reflected in the mind of the average prisoner?” Part One Constitutes Frankl’s analysis of his experiences in the concentration camps, while Part Two introduces his ideas of meaning and his theory called logotherapy human nature is motivated by the search for a life of purpose

and indeed Having a purpose or finding one can be the best way of living.

This Blog is another 4 part series blog One blogging have all could result in information overload.

If you enjoy, This one visit for the other books which one must-read.
