Glass Menagerie Play @Prithvi

The Glass Menagerie a play that’s has been in production for more than five years. For more than two years I have been trying to watch the show. And yes finally watched it on Thursday 30th August at Prithvi theatres. The story is about love & loneliness revealing the story of family members whose lives form a triangle of quiet desperation.

Amanda played by (Shernaz Patel popular theatre artist.) is the widow mother with two children one son Tom played by (Jim Sarbh)Have you watched Sanju recently ? He is Sanju’s friend who introduces him to drugs .and daughter Laura played by (Ira Dubey)

Since the play is set in the 1950s  Amanda the mother is all worried about her daughter  shy and crippled daughter Laura, , who is living in her glass menagerie and her memories. The mother narrates her gentleman callers stories where she would be so popular and get so many calls everyday before she got married.

In the same bellied she ask her  son Tom, a poet with a job in the docks,  to find her sister a husband and if there is anyone at the docks who he could introduce to her sister. but when the long awaited gentleman caller does arrive, Laura’s romantic illusions are crushed. The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams’ , is one of his most powerful and moving plays.

The play opened at the Prithvi Theatre festival in 2013 and has since toured around the country, been showcased at the Hindu Festival and has played in Kuwait and the UAE.

The Royal Experience!!

Wonder! why, Did the site Not be used for Recreational purposes Earlier.

The Very fact of the Opera House being under Restoration for about 8 Years.

Shows, the Royalty with which the Opera House which had the term  Royal prefixed when King George V  inaugurated the building in 1911 while the building was still under construction.

The Opera House Has the Grandeur and a presence of state of the art Architecture and feel to it.

It can be one of the few victories of discovering and successfully restoring a stage for Art & Cultural Purposes .

Having been More than a century Old The Royal Opera doesn’t seemed to have the ageing effect.

It’s Surely very competitive to International standards & International Opera Houses around the World. That The Unesco Community has awarded the Stage with a  Asia- Pacific  Award For cultural Heritage Award Conservation.

An Important Symbol of Art & Culture would have been lost forever,In 1993 Itself,Hadn’t the restoration plans been implemented  in 2008 and executed  for the exterior and the interior restoration from 2011 and complete restoration done by 2016. We wouldn’t have been able to experience the Royal Highness.

The Experience of The Royal Opera House was further enhanced by the Play we watched there “Siddhus of Upper Juhu” A Light-hearted Comedy play with Character portraying life in a Metro of a Parsi-punjab Couple who have moved to the Juhu Surburb and Life of a working couple.

The Night Ended with, Pizza’s for Dinner at TheQuarter A Dining space in the compound of  Royal Opera House.  Live Music playing in the indoor space and The outdoor open space had a lively feel to it.

,We could only Show our Support by visiting the most beautiful site for the events, It has to offer for all of us who live here in the city and in the country. As it is the only existing Opera House in our country.

Theatre!

Theatre is so much more powerful than movies, the medium has actors performing live to an audience with just the stage as the only space for performances, theatre has just the few lights and the core acting team performing a few characters each.Theatre becomes even more challenging for the performing artists to play ,the character with so much of disturbance around,The laughter and the movement the concentration becomes the only means of staying true to the character performed by the actors, the spontaneous action and reaction between characters  is more enjoyable in  the plays rather than movies.Writer Bloc 4 the 10 day long festival at Prithvi which started on the 1st April and Will concluded on the 10th  has made me look at theatre from a perspective that I haven’t really come across in the past while watching plays. The storytelling is simplified with actors  in-acting scenes without any hesitance in front of the audience. The lighting is the key part  in theatre since that would only help the audience  know whether its day or night sequence. The 2 plays that,I have watched so far since the festival have begun has also made  me realise the language doesn’t really matter the story and the Act by the Actors can help you understand and enjoy the play.

With just a week left, why not head to Prithvi to watch some interesting plays?,written by writers who want a platform to showcase their talent to people who love the theatre medium and encourage new talent on another platform of art which is dying a slow death .
