The 15th Kala Ghoda Festival concluded on sunday the 9th February. Being the last day of the nine day long festival there were thousands of people who visited Kala Ghoda in South Mumbai , to either see the performances of Farhan Akthar or to see the creativity done by students, and todays youth .I had been to the festival last year too and was amazed by the efforts put in by the organiser and team in displaying some interesting things from best out of waste, electronic waste .A brief history of the festival.its inception in 1999, the Festival has grown in stature and popularity, attracting visitors and participants from other parts of the country, and the world. The Festival is organised by the Kala Ghoda Association (a non-profit organisation that states its objectives as “physically upgrading the Kala Ghoda sub-precinct and making it the Art District of Mumbai”) and curated by teams handling each of the sub-festivals.Its held usually around nine days long either in late January or early February. The sub-festivals feature the visual arts, dance, music, theatre, cinema, literature, lectures, seminars and workshops, heritage walks, special events for children, and a vibrant street festival. Entry to all events is free to all (only restricted by the size of the venues) . Venues include The Jehangir Art gallery , The National Gallery of Modern Art , the David Sassoon Library , Max Mueller Bhavan, Elphinstone college , the K.R Cama Institue, the M C Ghia Hall, and the street area of Rampart Row. Rampart Row is closed off to vehicular traffic for the duration of the festival, with the entire area becoming a street Mela , with food stalls, artisans selling their creations, artists who sketch instant portraits, street art installations and the like. TAG HEUER
*TAG Heuer traces its roots to the 1860 foundation of Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG by Edouard Heuer in St.Imier, Switzerland. The company was purchased by TAG Group (Holding )S.A. in 1985 and the Heuerbrand became TAG Heuer. In 1999, TAG Group sold TAG Heuer to French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH which stands for Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy .
*In the early 1950s, Heuer produced watches for the American retailer Abercrombie & Fitch The “Seafarer” and “Auto-Graph” the two collection pieces were unique chronographs produced by Heuer to be sold by Abercrombie & Fitch. The “Seafarers” had special dials—with blue, green and yellow patterns—that showed the high and low tides. This dial could also be used to track the phases of the moon. Heuer produced a version of the “Seafarer” for sale under the Heuer name, with this model called the “Mareographe”. The “Auto-Graph” was produced in 1953 and 1954, and featured a tachymeter scale on the dial and a hand that could be preset to a specific point on the scale. This allowed a rally driver or navigator to determine whether the car was achieving the desired pace, over a measured mile. Advertisements and literature also pointed out that this hand could be rotated to count golf scores or other events.
* in most watches catalogues and in-store displays you’ll find the time is displayed as ten minutes past ten o’clock or sometimes ten minutes to two o’clock. And that is because of The popular meaning for this is that it’s “Happy Time” or that the clock is smiling which becomes an emotional marketing tool to encouraging you to feel good when you’re looking to buy that particular watch or clock.
* Jack Heuer, the great grandson of the founder, is the Honorary Chairman. TAG Heuer maintains a watchmaking workshop in Cornol , Switzerland and a watchmaking factory in La chaux-de-fonds, Switzerland. And The Brand TAG Heuer hasn’t changed its slogan “Swiss Avant-Garde Since 1860”.
Sulafest 2014
The Sulafest this year had too much of electronic music. A complete zone to it .Also , sula was spread out with music in every section ,whether there were electronic zones or an artist trying to grab attention near the grape stomping ,or the main stage and entrance to the Amphitheatre too had music .It seemed this fest had lost its main appeal to have live bands performing , it seems like they got carried away by just being another concert type of event since ,mostly everywhere in India we are getting to hear one genre. It wasn’t really different .Saturday , day one highlight- the gypsy all stars were different, they sang songs and for one of the songs they too tried creating a fusion with folk music and spanish tunes . The Day 2 was utter disappointment since it had just music with no lyrics and nothing new to offer .
Also it seems that the fest has being taking the advantage of the brand name ‘Sula ‘ since this year they even charged rupee 100 for car parking for each day .
